Pieter VERMEERSCH Pieter VERMEERSCH Biography Born in 1973 in Kortrijk, Belgium, Lives and works in Brussels, Belgium, Pieter Vermeersch’s (Kortrijk, 1973) artistic research of painting expands beyond the confinement of the canvas. His work often consists of large spatial interventions, consistently subverting territory whether conceived for an exhibition space or adjusted to a pre-existing architectural site. In addition to the immersive, painterly installations and gradient wall paintings, his oeuvre also includes an array of ephemeral zero degree paintings on canvas. Pieces are brought to a concrete reality by the irreversible process of chiseling and milling natural stone. His works are complimented by a series of photographic prints or marble slabs reactivated with delicate touches of paint, a stroke of the brush or gradual color planes. With representation and abstraction set as parameters, Vermeersch’s oeuvre triggers infinitesimal perceptual experiences, presenting us with a sense of color that is referential of the gap between appearance and disappearance; the gap in which the divisions between two and three dimensional, immaterial and tangible, time and space are blurred.

Wim DELVOYE Wim DELVOYE Biography Born in 1965 in Wervik, Belgium, Lives and works between Ghent, Belgium and Brighton, United Kingdom, Wim Delvoye appropriates and diverts art-historical styles and motifs to sublimate trivial yet unconventional objects, and sometimes even living subjects. His eclectic and subversive practice spans a wide range of media, including drawing, sculpture, and installation; he is perhaps best known for naturalizing tattooed pigs in China, or mechanically replicating the digestive system to produce real feces within exhibition spaces. Constantly oscillating between antagonistic realms, such as the sacred and the profane or the local and the global, he sarcastically confronts the various myths that feed our contemporary society, from religion to science and capitalism, via unexpected hybridizations. Whether twisting Rorschach inkblots into sleek bronze idols or cement trucks into laser-cut-steel neo-Gothic cathedrals, he combines expert craftsmanship with high technology. Delvoye’s ever-shifting, conceptual-adjacent aesthetics further questions the commodification of art by strategically and provocatively eluding any attempt at definitive categorization.

Jens FÄNGE Jens FÄNGE Biography Born in 1965 in Gothenburg, Sweden, Lives and works in Stockholm, Sweden, Working at the intersection of the early-twentieth-century practice of collage and the ancient art of shadow play, Jens Fänge has developed a surrealistic matryoshka-like aesthetics that consists of assembling paintings within paintings. A master of eclecticism, he incorporates—so it seems—an entire hierarchy of genres into his composite works, juxtaposing iconic portraits, still lifes, domestic interiors, cityscapes, and landscapes with geometric abstractions, all of which he renders using a variety of media and materials, including oil paint, pencil, vinyl, cardboard, and fabric on panel. The contoured, often cut-out protagonists of the artist’s refined pictorial plays appear to be drifting into these overlapping stage-like layers of representations, giving rise to an intricate, seemingly endless maze of shifting perspectives, not only within each composition but also within each series as a whole.

Laurent GRASSO Laurent GRASSO Anechoic Wall , 2016 Wood, gold leaf 140 × 100 × 10 cm | 55 1/8 × 39 3/8 × 3 15/16 inch Unique Location: SHANGHAI 60 000 € ( ¥ 472,025 ) Without tax Laurent Grasso’s investigation into acoustic materials and the myth of the sound fossil is realized in his “Anechoic Wall” series. The work’s mosaic composition is reminiscent of anechoic chambers which absorb and mute all incoming sound and magnetic waves. The work has been iterated through a variety of shapes and materials, such as wood, metal and marble. The use of gold leaf in this particular work refers to the golden fund of the Italian Primitives and ancient gilt of Salon Doré of the Elysée Palace in Paris.

Leslie HEWITT Leslie HEWITT Untitled (Perception) , 2013 Digital chromogenic print in custom maple frame 132.7 × 158.1 × 15.2 cm | 52 1/4 × 62 1/4 × 6 inch 3/3 + 1 AP Location: SHANGHAI [金额已省略] ( ¥ 254,128 ) Without tax Leslie Hewitt’s photographs rest in custom built wooden frames that lean against the wall and invite viewers to experience a unique space between photography and sculpture. Set in a domestic environment and shot with natural light, Hewitt’s photographs are constructed from personal and found snapshots depicting everyday life, and magazines and books that relate to black popular culture of the 1970s and 80s. These elements which are stacked, balanced, and perched atop one another in various combinations reflect the artist's interest in 16th and 17th century Dutch still-life painting, while the repeated rearrangement and photographing of similar compositions is a way to capture the most subtle shifts in perception. Hewitt's careful arrangement of objects borrowed from personal ephemera and popular culture, investigate the way in which our cultural memory is established, while exploring notions of time space and memory. Hewitt works in series and has so far created four of the leaning photographs series over a period of 10 years: Make it Plain (2006), Midday Series (2009), Blue Skies, Warm Sunlight (2011), Still Life Series (2013). Works from this body of work are included in the collections of The Des Moines Art Center, Des Moines; the Dallas Museum of Art, Dallas; The Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; The Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles; and the Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco; among others.
