LuYang's DOKU is more than a virtual idol
DOKU is LuYang's digital incarnation, using performance, music, philosophy and technology to examine body, identity, mind and cosmos.
Beginning with and departing from the body
DOKU begins with LuYang's bodily data but is conceived beyond physical needs, fixed time, place or singular identity. It resembles the artist without functioning as a simple substitute.
The paradox of a realistic surface
Fifty facial expressions were captured and reconstructed into a highly realistic digital figure. The closer the image comes to a real face, the more perceptible its distance from a living body becomes.
A world built collaboratively
Artists, musicians, dancers, poets, science-fiction writers, scientists and philosophers contribute to the same world. Music, movement and ideas determine how that world operates rather than merely decorating a digital figure.
The key is not technical realism but how the incarnation makes body, identity and authorship unstable.
