Hilary Pecis: how the everyday holds affection

The photograph is only a start
Pecis begins with snapshots, then removes visual noise, changes colour and reimagines perspective through memory and intuition.

Few figures, many traces
Hats, crumpled napkins and waiting chairs suggest people who just stepped away. Picnic brings diners into view, while Nook turns a room shared with her dog Tina into refuge.

Time is held and passes
Mt. Shasta comes from a photo taken more than fifteen years earlier with her father. A vacated studio corner, birthday cake and race medals register other forms of passing time.
What this means
Colour, perspective and traces of objects give everyday relationships a form that can be looked at again.
